Riomaggiore is quintessential Cinque Terre.
Riomaggiore is quintessential Cinque Terre. It is rugged and beautiful. It is a colorful, bustling fishing village full of friendly people and yummy restaurants, bars, bakeries, little shops, art galleries, etc. And it wasn't as overrun as Vernazza. We stayed on the harbor which I highly recommend. We took a sunset cruise that left steps from our accommodations. After visiting all the towns, it was my favorite, by far.

Riomaggiore was a lovely village to stay in.
Riomaggiore was a lovely village to stay in. I am sure all the towns in Cinque Terre are lovely to stay in. One needs to be a bit in shape to do the hiking or even ride the trains but is an adventure not to be missed! The scenery is spectacular.

Wonderful historic town and the trek options between the towns are a treat. The train also makes it so easy to travel to all the towns. We also did a boat trip from Levanto to see Cinque Terra from the beautiful blue sea. Just lovely, a real highlight. There are also lots of choices of places to eat that seemed quite economical.

It’s hard to know which town to stay in, but we were not disappointed. I would definitely chose this town again to stay in Cinque Terra. Sunsets are the best. Atmosphere is fantastic. There is a great rocky beach to swim from, exploring water caves etc. Colours are sensational and great reasonable food choices. You can walk everywhere, but make sure you stay by the water!

The Cinque Terre is a must see place, you do need to have a good pair of legs as it is all about walking and some places a very steep. Riomaggiore is a beautiful place and although small is worth exploring. The best Troffie was served at the trattoria near the station as was all their food, homemade excellence. A train pass will take you to all the other towns very quickly.

I think if you can bear the huge influx of tourists during the day Riomaggiore is a lovely place to stay. But never go in July-August. Mid September the weather was the best as the water was still warm. Great places to swim off the rocks and the sunsets are spectacular. Good for take away food-wine to eat-drink on your terrace. We didn’t eat in restaurants as our terrace had a great view (expensive but worth the view). Very steep steps so wear trainers. We kayaked for 2 hours from Riomaggiore-Corniglia, a great way to see the coastline. We also booked a guide through booking.com to take us around the villages and let us taste some local foods and wines. Very informative and entertaining. Very easy to get around on trains so book a two day pass. We also did a winetasting in an amazingly photogenic bar-restaurant called Bar e Vini a Pie de Ma on a terrace on a cliff above Riomaggiore station, great food too especially the Bruschette. Most of the coastal walks are closed so you have to walk the long way over the hills. Extremely strenuous if you are not a fit walker, we did Riomaggiore-Manarolo, 1 hour up very steep steps, 45min down. We took the train back. Wouldn’t do that again…. Not worth doing Via Dell’ Amore as it is only 200 mt, as the rest is under construction and you need to pay for it. Interesting to see it being reconstructed with the aid of a helicopter. Stunning place but be aware that there will be crowds.
You will feel like at home, maybe even better. Francesca and her husband are great hosts, perhaps the best. Rooms are comfortable, everything you need is there, and even much more. Location is perfect, center of Riomaggiore is justa a few steps away, but on the other hand, location is quiet and in the morning you hear the birds sing.
Francesa will take time to explain everything to their guests, there is also info center just around the corner, stay as long as you can, Riomaggiore and Cinque Terre have so much to offer.
Location is everything, and this hotel had it all. There was nothing second everything was top-notched.
Oh my, what a view!! The hosts were very friendly and very helpful. Be sure to ask for suggestions. The suggestions that were provided were perfect. Be sure to follow directions to the hotel, including texting the host. You must have breakfast. It was outstanding. They provided a bottle of wine to watch the amazing sunset. Top notched hotel is the best in Italy!!
I suggest this hotel to ALL travelers.
This lovely room is in the best location, a short walk to everything you’d want to do in Riomaggiore. Barbara met us at the train station & walked us to the accomodation which was very helpful. She was super friendly and gave great tips on things to do in town and across the Cinque Terre. The room is very clean, the balcony is amazing with surely the best view in town. A small but tasty sweet breakfast was provided as well as coffee. Really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend!
Amazing view. One of the easier places to reach from the train station. One of the other reviews said "if this place is available, take it" - that's how I picked it. I totally agree - I can't imagine a better place to stay in the Cinque Terre. We went to the two restaurants that were steps from our hotel. We did take out and watched the sunset from the hotel terrace the other two nights. The view of sunset is perfect from the hotel.
The room was spacious, clean and located very convenient for us who travelled by train. Even though the accommodation is placed on the upper parts of Riomaggiore it was easy to bring heavy luggage thanks to the public elevators.
Paula was very kind and service minded for example she gave us cava and some breakfast even though it wasn’t included.
I highly recommend this place if you want to experience Cinque terre!
Amazing location and view in whay I found to be the best of the 5 cinque terre villages. Lovely and helpful staff. In addition to an amazing balcony view there is an internal ladder to a rooftop patio. The shower was good. Unit clean. Espresso machine provided great espresso. Close to all with little walking but up one set of stairs. Simple but nice fish-themed decor. Clean.
View from the terrace over Riomaggiore was wonderful, and our exceptionally responsive host Loretta really went out of her way to make our stay pleasant (and help restore power when the thunderstorms tripped the circuit not one but twice). Plenty of towels and a welcome bottle of Cinque Terre wine and milk were all nice touches. A public lift was a short walk away.
Right next to the ocean. Balcony and see sounds made this a great experience. Market down the road luckily was open for purchase of food, wine, and more. The hiking to Riomagiorre the next Cinque Terre village was steep and challenging but amazingly scenic. Recommend being in good shape if you go here without mass transit
Loved the hospitality at La Ripa! Wonderfully updated and comfy room. The host had a bottle of wine waiting for us along with a few other welcome goodies. He provided an abundance of information about the area and suggested places to go and explore. I would definitely recommend booking your stay here to explore Cinque Terre!
This was an excellent full apartment with a magnificent view over the city and sea. I didn’t really get it when I booked, but the property is also EXTREMELY conveniently located, making it perfect for exploration of Riomaggiore and the rest of Cinque Terre. The host was so helpful and kind, don’t underestimate her guidance!
Perfect location in the heart of RIomaggiore- everything you need, transport, food, swimming, and boat trips are literally 1-3 minutes away. The well-appointed apartment is suited to a couple or small family. The 5 sets of steep stairs were initially tricky, but good training for the Cinque Terre walks!
The host Mr. Enrico is very kind and helpful. Breakfast is delicious, not much of variety but everything served is of good quality and fresh, we really enjoyed. Our rooms and bathrooms were of very good size and very clean.
I recommend Hotel del Sole, nice place to stay when visiting Cinque Terre!
We really loved these apartments. The owners were very accommodating to our requests. The two flats that we got were big and very clean. They had everything we needed. The location - right next to the Riomaggiore station - is a big plus if you want to discover Cinque Terre by train.
being in Cinque Terre. The door to the balcony fell off hinges. We had a difficult time getting instuctions to get the key, the first set of keys did not work and I had to go back to the "office location to get a different set of keys". Not a positive experience.
Great location with a view over the town, within walking distance but still away from the masses! Davide and his family are very caring, looking after one and fullfilling every possible wish! Organic breakfast, with local ingredients.
Best stay in Cinque Terre !!!
Perfect location with a beautiful view. Paulo and Michael were so lovely, welcoming and helpful with tips regarding the area. We had a beautiful stay, I would highly recommend. We both said this was the best spot in the Cinque Terre to stay.
Amazing location, very friendly host, easy check-in, clean place and good value for money! Small arrangement for quick breakfast was nice! 😊 I recommend this place to stay if you are visiting Riomaggiore or Cinque Terre in general.
This is an amazing location and very affordable for what you’re getting. Being in Riomaggiore is the best. The room is small, but functional, and the bathroom is probably the nicest I’ve seen in Italy. Great host as well!
Best view in Cinque Terre! Incredibly clean and comfortable. Loved the little snacks, drinks, tea, and expression maker. The option to have wine ready was a great option too. Excellent location!
Loved our stay in Cinque Terre. The hotel was in a fantastic location with unbeatable views. Our host was very helpful also and quick to respond. Would definitely recommend staying at Agave!
