Aquincum

Uscendo di qualche km dal centro di Budapest è possibile trovare le rovine di un’antica città risalente all’impero romano: si tratta di Aquincum. Storicamente questa città fu molto importante: fece parte dell’ingegnoso meccanismo di protezione strutturato dal fronte romano chiamato limes, ma soprattutto si crede che Marco Aurelio abbia passato qui diverso tempo a trascrivere il suo libro Meditazioni (Τὰ εἰς ἑαυτόν). Molti dei reperti storici sopravvissuti al tempo sono ora conservati nel Museo di Aquincum, persino la ricostruzione del sistema idraulico utilizzato a suo tempo. Facendo parte dell’Impero, questa città poté contare su tutte le innovazioni dell’epoca come case riscaldate, bagni pubblici, palazzi e persino degli anfiteatri, uno dedicato solo ai combattimenti tra gladiatori e bestie. Oggi non è rimasto poi molto, ma la superficie per cui si estendono le rovine è davvero enorme comparata ad altri scavi archeologici: sicuramente Aquincum è una chicca per il vostro itinerario a Budapest se siete appassionati del genere.
