Chiesa Stavropoleos

La Chiesa Stavropoleos, (in rumeno Biserica Stavropoleos) è la chiesa ortodossa dell’omonimo monastero, situata nel centro di Bucarest. E’ uno degli edifici religiosi più belli della capitale della Romania che spicca per il suo stile architettonico estremamente diverso rispetto ai palazzi e alle costruzioni nelle sue vicinanze. Esso trova ispirazione nello stile Brâncoveanu, uno stile locale ed eclettico che si sviluppoò durante l’amministrazione del principe Constantin Brâncoveanu. La chiesa presenta splendidi affreschi interni ed esterni che hanno tematiche religiose e bibliche. All’interno della navata é possibile trovare alcune reliquie dei Santi apostoli Andrea e Pietro. Fu costruita come parte di un monastero nel 1724 contestualmente ad una locanda (che dava sostegno economico). Nel corso del diciannovesimo secolo la locanda e la restante parte del monastero furono demoliti e la chiesa, andata incontro ad alcune opere di restauro nel corso degli anni, rimane quindi l’unica parte ancora in “vita” della costruzione originale.
