Mercado del puerto

Nonostante il nome possa trarre in inganno, il Mercado del Puerto non funziona più come mercato, ma oggi è stato trasformato dando vita a quella che è una delle tappe fisse per chi visita la citta vecchia. Diversi ristoranti tipici uruguayi sono nati in questo grande magazzino ed è proprio qui che, specialmente di sabato, potrete assaggiare il piatto tipico del popolo uruguay: l’asado! Sono stupendi i colori e le forme presenti all’interno di questo enorme edificio, ma soprattutto sono affascinanti le parriladas dove la carne viene cucinata al momento: l’odore è veramente unico (Ma logicamente, se siete vegetariani o vegani, non fa al caso vostro). Il sabato è sicuramente la giornata migliore per una visita, specialmente dalle 15.00 in poi: il mercado del puerto si anima con musica e balli e tanto, tanto alcol che scorre tra bicchieri rotti e grosse risate. E’ comunque una struttura con una certa importanza storica in Uruguay: si tratta della prima struttura totalmente in ferro, tipologia di architettura sconosciuta in Sud America nei primi anni del 1800 (Divenne infatti famosa dopo la costruzione della Torre Eiffel). E’ affiancato da alcuni edifici veramente imponenti, tra cui l’ex dogana e la nuova dogana, i quali meritano comunque una visita, anche se veloce.
